Who: The Motet
Where: Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom
Opener: Roster McCabe and DJ Maniac Magee
Favorite moment: What’s wonderful about the Motet is that every moment feels like it was musically crafted for you. The Motet has a special place in their heart for Coloradians and they do it up extra special for us. The love is quite apparent. It’s impossible to have a favorite moment because the entire show keeps you on your feet and perpetually grooving.
Details: The Motet “defies categorization” and after ten eventful years, they are an ensemble at the top of their game. Combining, “a variety of roots in Jazz, Afrobeat, Funk, Salsa and Samba, with layers of House and Techno rhythms,” this band is unlike anything you have ever seen before.
The scene: The show was completely sold-out (not that I’m surprised considering it was 4/20) and jam-packed with a mixture of seasoned veterans and newcomers, all ready to get funky and celebrate the liberal nature of Colorado.
The Good: You will never stop dancing. Ever.
The Stage: The stage was a bit crammed for an ensemble, but they made do and nobody tripped over their gear.
FYI: If you live in Colorado and have not seen this band, it’s time you get on the ball. You will be asking yourself, “is this for real?” Primary composer, drummer and founder, Dave Watts, is unbelievable and a must see for any music junkie.
